People are putting real thought into it, and it shows as we are staying in our homes longer then ever in this marker so its all about making the best use of the space you have for the future.

1. Heat Pump Dryers
If you’re buying a dryer in 2027, a heat pump model is worth a close look. Instead of blasting hot air out through a vent, it recycles air inside the machine. That makes it gentler on your clothes and cheaper to run than a traditional dryer.
There’s a renovation bonus too: because it doesn’t need an external vent, it’s easier to fit into a small laundry, a unit or an apartment. Plan the layout around it early, because heat pump dryers can be a different size to what you’re replacing, and you’ll want the bench height and clearances right.
2. Hidden Storage That Clears the Clutter
The best laundries in 2027 don’t look like laundries. The trend is all about hiding the mess:
- Pull-out hampers built into the cabinetry, so baskets stay off the floor
- Laundry chutes, which are making a comeback in multi-storey homes
- Full-height cupboards for the mop, broom and ironing board
- A pull-out bench for folding straight from the dryer

3. A Laundry That Does Two Jobs
Perth families are asking the laundry to do more. The most popular pairing right now is a laundry and butler’s pantry in one, so you can put a load on and cook dinner without crossing the house.
Other combinations we’re seeing:
- A dog wash station with a tiled splashback (see our pet-friendly laundry renovation guide)
- A mudroom drop zone for school bags and sports gear
- A small desk or craft nook built into the benchtop
If you have the space, plan for the second use from day one so it doesn’t feel tacked on later.
4. Dark Appliances and One Bold Feature
Black and graphite washers and dryers are following the same path they took in kitchens. Set against white or light timber cabinetry, they look sharp and modern. Pair them with matte black or brushed brass tapware and the whole room looks more expensive than it was.
You don’t need to spend big to make it special, either. Pick one feature and make it the star:
- Handmade-look tiles on the splashback
- Coloured grout
- A statement tap
- A timber-look benchtop for warmth
One strong choice looks intentional. Five competing ones look messy.

5. Somewhere to Dry on a Wet Day
Perth has plenty of sun, but you can’t count on it, and lots of homes don’t have a good spot to hang washing. Building drying into the renovation is one of the smartest moves you can make:
- A built-in drying cupboard for units and small homes (huge luxury item)
- A ceiling-mounted pulley rack over the laundry or nearby
- A wall-mounted rack that folds away when you’re done
It’s a simple add during a renovation, and much harder to retrofit later once the cabinetry is in.
How to Plan Your Laundry Renovation
Before you pick finishes, get the basics right:
- Work out how you use the room. Who does the washing, where does it get dried, and what gets in your way every week? Mate this is my BIGGEST ONE.
- Measure your space and your appliances. Check the dimensions before you design around them.
- Decide what stays and what goes. Think about storage, drying and any second use before you think about colours.
- Then choose the finishes. Pick what you love, because you’ll be looking at it every day.
Keep it simple, start with what you want out of your laundry and work out the rest from there. Laundry renovations heading into 2027 will all be about what will the future beholding for me and what will make this last.
